Rehabilitation of Asian Giant Tortoise

The emys tortoise of the local people pet that was given to us had a shell that had been painted silver. we have succeeded in removing stains from these carapaces.

We plan to release the tortoise in the future in its natural habitat.

Info About the tortoise

Manouria emys is the largest tortoise on the Asian continent.

Spread from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The conservation status according to the IUCN is Criticaly Endangered. Indonesia's conservation status is protected. The decline in tortoise populations is due to hunting for pets and habitat destruction.

This tortoise had a high, curved back shield, very thick. The size is about 600 mm with a weight of 15-20 kg.Reproduction of these reptiles by laying eggs. Usually the eggs are buried in a nest with a depth of about 500 mm. Once laying eggs can produce about 20-30 eggs. However, spawning is carried out in several consecutive days.

The habitat of this tortoise is in forest and plains areas with moderate elevations. Its food comes from leaves, fruits and roots.
